Juniors trip to Wimbledon Championships on Gentlemen’s Finals Day
Nine of our juniors arrived at GBLTC on Sunday 10 July at 9:30 am for what would become a historical visit to Wimbledon Championships.
Once we arrive at a very packed Henman Hill, we all dived into what can be described as the most busiest shop ever! With large tennis balls, hats and other accessories purchased it was time for lunch! Our tickets were for Court 1 where the Boys’ Finals was being played. Denis Shapovalov beat Alex De Minaur over three sets, it was just amazing tennis from these two 17 year olds.
Some of us then went off to Court 3 to see Andy Murray play Milos Raonic on the big screens, with the rest remaining to watched the greats of Lindsay Davenport/Mary Joe Fernadez vs Martina Navratilova/Selima Sfar. We all though meet up and were able to see Andy Murray lift his trophy from the balcony.
Then amazingly the majority of people in Centre Court left, so after the juniors let off some steam in the Kids Zone, we were off to Henman Hill to watch Henri Kontinen/Heather Watson beat Robert Farah/Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
A totally great and historic day to be at Wimbledon with 4 British winners:
- Andy Murray – Gentlemen’s Singles
- Heather Watson – Mixed Doubles
- Gordon Reid – Gentlemen’s Wheelchair Singles
- Jordanne Whiley – Ladies’ Wheelchair Doubles
One junior said it was the best day ever!!!! And it totally was as we got back to the Club at 9:30, but this time pm!
